Baghdad Iraq and Lithuania stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in the field of immigration and immigrants.
A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that its Minister, Fouad Hussein, met today, Monday, with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, on the sidelines of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers, and during the meeting, aspects of joint cooperation between the two countries were discussed.
During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in the field of immigration and migrants, and agreed to increase coordination between the concerned authorities in both countries in order to reach understandings that serve the common interests of both sides.
The Lithuanian Minister expressed his country’s readiness for cooperation and coordination in the military and security fields.
At the end of the meeting, Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein welcomed the desire of the Lithuanian Minister to visit Iraq to follow up the files that were discussed during the meeting, as he invited him to investigate them soon.
It is noteworthy that the meeting of European Union foreign ministers included the presence of (27) ministers, and the Iraqi issue was the main item on the agenda. The participants valued the presence of the Iraqi Minister and his shedding light on various issues of concern to bilateral relations between Iraq and the European Union, as well as axes related to the Iraqi situation and the region.
