Iraq and the UAE discuss ways to enhance cooperation in food security and opportunities to support food trade

Baghdad Iraq and the UAE discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in joint food security and opportunities to support food trade.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “the Iraqi Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Mudhaffar Mustafa Al-Jubouri, met today, Monday, the UAE Minister of State for Food and Water Security, Maryam bint Mohammed Al-Muhairi, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dubai, and during the meeting, ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries were discussed in joint food security, opportunities to support food trade, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences in modern agricultural technology, to enable the transition towards sustainable food systems in a way that supports bilateral relations, and activate new partnership mechanisms in the field of investment.

According to the statement, the Ambassador reviewed Iraq’s efforts to enhance its food security, with the country’s great potential in the agricultural sector and its possession of vast areas of land.

He stressed the importance of achieving the strategic goals of food security, especially in the field of diversifying food sources locally, with the need to confront the challenges that hinder the achievement of those goals, noting that the geographical proximity between the two brotherly countries and the future projects between them, help to build joint projects in various forms that will contribute to achieving the goals of food security and economic benefit sharing.

For her part, the UAE Minister of Food and Water Security welcomed the ideas presented by the Ambassador on investment and cooperation opportunities./
