Baghdad The Ministry of Transport announced today, Friday, the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the UAE Abu Dhabi Ports Company, to strengthen bilateral relations in the transport sector in general and the maritime sector in particular, and to exchange experiences and benefit from them, for the benefit of the two peoples.
A ministry statement stated that “the Minister of Transport, Nasser Hussein Al-Shibli, met with the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei, and the two sides pledged” to take all steps to achieve the goals set in the agreement, which extends 12 months and is automatically renewable for a similar period. Abu Dhabi ports enjoy the right to explore opportunities and carry out the necessary feasibility studies related to the implementation of the scope of the memorandum.
The MoU revealed “areas of cooperation, foremost of which is the study of investment, management and operation in ports, economic zones and other infrastructures of the General Ports Company in Iraq, and the development of infrastructure in the interior regions such as road and railway networks in order to connect the Faw port with neighboring markets in Jordan and Turkey, and the financing of all studies the feasibility of the memorandum.
The statement indicated that “the memorandum of understanding is just a beginning between the two parties, and the hope is for the future to serve investors in both countries towards Arab ports that are more accommodating to global requirements and keep pace with the high positive energy of the Iraqi and Emirati peoples.”
