Iraq renews its support for all initiatives that respect the choices of the Syrian people

Baghdad Iraq renewed its position in support of all initiatives that respect the choices of the Syrian people, preserve Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, and preserve and enhance the principles and values of human rights in it.

This came during the meeting of Ambassador Abdul Rahman Al-Husseini, head of the delegation of the Republic of Iraq participating in the nineteenth round of the Astana process on Syria, with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Geir Pedersen.

Ambassador Al-Husseini affirmed Iraq’s call to all concerned parties to engage in a constructive political dialogue aimed at finding quick solutions to the suffering experienced by the Syrian people, and accelerating all efforts aimed at accelerating the safe and voluntary return of migrants and displaced persons to their places and the reconstruction of the affected areas in accordance with the provisions of Security Council Resolution 2254, and the Geneva Conference on Syria and the Astana Peace Talks in Syria, and the start of taking effective political steps to end the crisis and achieve the goals of the international community in establishing peace and security in Syria and protecting its people.

It is noteworthy that Iraq participates in the Astana meetings as an observer, in addition to Lebanon, Jordan and representatives of international organizations.
