BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani of Iraq has urged the European Union to adopt a definitive position condemning the violations and crimes against humanity that the Palestinian people are enduring.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, during a phone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Schulz, the Prime Minister discussed bilateral ties and the current state of the region. Al-Sudani emphasized the significance of strengthening the partnership between Iraq and Germany, expressing a desire to expand economic and developmental cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
The Prime Minister reiterated Iraq’s stance on the Palestinian issue, highlighting the aggression in the occupied territories and the atrocities committed against the Palestinian people on their historical land. He called for the EU, through Chancellor Schulz, to explicitly condemn the actions against the Palestinian people, who are undergoing a humanitarian crisis widely denounced globally. Al-Sudani pointed out that the situation in Gaza is a moral test for the international community, placing legal and humanitarian responsibilities upon it.
In response, Chancellor Schulz indicated Germany’s efforts towards achieving a ceasefire and the country’s readiness to assist in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. He underscored Germany’s commitment to ongoing dialogue to seek a peaceful resolution and to foster stability in the region.
