Legal Expert: Election fraud is a crime that affects the independence and unity of the country and is punishable by death

Baghdad Legal Expert Ali Al-Tamimi confirmed that the penalty for electoral fraud is the death penalty, because it is one of the crimes that affect the independence and unity of the country.”

Al-Tamimi said in a statement: “The formation of the Supreme Judicial Council a higher committee to follow up electoral fraud and uncover those involved, is a positive step that will greatly help prevent any form of manipulation, fraud, or distortion of the elections from their desired goal,” noting: “the committee’s work will be in the presence of judges, the Public Prosecution, investigators, as well as the security and intelligence services.”

He explained: “Such crimes can be called ‘harming the security of the state’, and Article 156 of the Penal Code is applied to it and the penalty for it is the death penalty, and it is one of the crimes that affect the independence and unity of the country.”

Al-Tamimi said: “These elections are very reliable for the Iraqi people, and they are the hope and the major gateway to change that fell as a result of reaching dozens of martyrs and wounded in the October Revolution. Also, the elections will enjoy major international oversight after the UN Security Council resolution, and this gives them international legitimacy.”
