In a meeting with the British Ambassador to Iraq, the Advisor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council Masrour Barzani requested that the international community should provide the Peshmarga with more weapons.
Barzani met with Ambassador Frank Baker on 16th February to discuss the latest security situab tion in Iraq and the fight against the Islamic State. Barzani asked the international community to support the Kurdistan Region with further military aid saying, “The Peshmarga are sacrificib ing their lives. They have insufficient weapons, and even those are too old.” “We believe that the central government in Baghdad cannot solve this issue, we have experience of that.”
Baker updated Barzani on the coalition air strikes against the IS and told him that the UK will send more mine disposal equipment and other military hardware to the Kurdistan Region within the next few weeks and continue to train the Peshmarga.
