Nechirvan Barzani Discusses With The Turkish President The Situation In Iraq And The Challenges Facing The Political Process

Baghdad The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, discussed with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan the situation in Iraq and the challenges facing the political process.

A statement by the Kurdistan Region Presidency said that Barzani, within the framework of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, met today, Sunurday, with the Turkish President, and the two sides discussed opportunities and ways to strengthen Turkey’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan region, expand areas of joint cooperation and enhance trade and economic exchange.

According to the statement, the situation in Iraq and the challenges facing the political process formed another focus of the meeting, adding that the two sides agreed on the importance of the Iraqi forces and parties reaching a common understanding and getting out of the state of political stagnation and forming the next Iraqi federal government in a way that reflects its components.

On the relations and problems of Erbil – Baghdad, the statement indicated that Barzani affirmed that the Kurdistan region will solve the problems once and for all through dialogue and on the basis of the constitution.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the region in general, the war on terrorism and security risks, and agreed on the importance of multilateral and international work and endeavor to maintain security and stability.
