Night demonstrations south of Hilla to demand electricity and reduce food prices

Dozens of residents of the western Hamza district and Al-Qasim district, south of Hilla, demonstrated this Friday evening in front of the buildings of the western Al-Hamza district and the Al-Qasim district building to demand fair distribution of electricity and demand the state’s intervention to reduce food prices, which rose during the current month.

Protester Muayyad al-Jubouri said, “Dozens of residents of the western Hamza district and al-Qasim district, south of Hilla, demonstrated this Friday evening, in protest against the increased hours of power cuts, despite the high temperatures, in a way that harms and exhausts the simple citizen who is forced to resort to private or home generators.”

He added that among the demands of the demonstrators is a reduction in the exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar and an urgent intervention by the local government to stop the rise in food prices, which rose during the current month by a third, noting that the demonstrators decided to carry out an open sit-in during the next few days in case their demands were not met.
