On World Water Day, Plasschaert: Iraq’s Neighbors Should Engage In Meaningful Discussions On Water Sharing And Resource Management

Baghdad The representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Hennes- Plasschaert, stressed that Iraq’s neighbors should participate in meaningful discussions on water sharing and resource management.

On the occasion of World Water Day 2022, she said “Across our planet, water is life. In Iraq, managing and managing water resources properly has special importance. Last month, in the south, I visited the Mizopotamia races, and I saw the challenges that double Iraq.

Low rainfall, decreasing water, land swelling, water, and inexpensive management of resources and population growth, all of these have left an impact across the country. Despite climate change, reducing water supply by neighboring countries is one of the most dangerous threats.

The bitter reality is that water shortage is not only a temporary danger but also increases the risks: the hidden effects of poverty, displacement and conflict have a dangerous effect on Iraq’s stability and remote happiness.

This year’s World Water Day highlights “Undergroundwater, Hidden Infinity”, with a focus on a significant living source that is often overlooked. As a major source of freshwater, undergroundwater should be protected and not wasted.

At the beginning of this month, the second international conference of Baghdad for water was held in Iraq and there were many important and various orders. This is definitely a good start and should be followed by action from now on.

Relationship parties in all political parties need to make this issue list as it is a common responsibility and important doses should be resolved quickly and seriously and the political disputes should be addressed. More important than this, neighboring countries of Iraq should participate in discussions aimed at distributing water and management of resources.

The United Nations families in Iraq are working in collaboration with Iraq to manage water resources, we can all play our role in an effort to reduce the negative impact on the environment.
