Othman: Kurds Do Not Agree On A Single Candidate For The Post Of President of the Republic

Baghdad The independent Kurdish politician Mahmoud Othman confirmed that there is no consensus among the Kurdish parties on a single candidate for the post of President of the Republic so far.

Othman said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): “There are no new discussions between the Kurdish parties to agree on the name of a single Kurdish candidate for the post of President of the Republic. The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will present Barham Salih, a single candidate for the party, while the Kurdistan Democratic Party will present Hoshyar Zebari for the same position. And the Federal Parliament will be the deciding factor in choosing one of them.”

He pointed out: “The Kurds will not interfere with the issue of the largest bloc, because it is a Shiite affair, and they will not be with one party against another, and the Kurdish parties will start negotiating with the largest bloc after it was officially named by the House of Representatives.”
