Najaf The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, sent a message of condolence to the family of the late religious authority, Muhammad Saeed Al-Hakim.
The text of the condolence message read: “Ayatollah al-Hakim was one of the eminent scholars of Islam and an influential voice in the Hawza in Najaf, as he was committed to dialogue and understanding, a man of peace and tolerance, and his door was always open to the international community, including the United Nations.”
She added, “His Eminence embodies the noble values of moderation and mercy, and his wisdom will be lost outside Iraq and the region.”
