President: Electoral Integrity And Security Are Of The Utmost Necessity To Secure Free Will Of Voters And Candidates

Baghdad President of the Republic, Barham Salih, affirmed that integrity and electoral security are of the utmost necessity to secure the free will of the voters and candidates.

A presidential statement received by the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA / stated: “Salih held a meeting with the President and members of the Independent High Electoral Commission and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, dealt with the election file, and during the meeting, the timetables and special operations of the elections were reviewed..

The meeting stressed: “The need to hold them on time, the requirements for conducting fair and free elections, intensifying efforts to complete the biometric registration of voters in order to guarantee the right to participate, the introduction of a legal and regulatory code of conduct and a national commitment charter among political forces, and strengthening the role of the United Nations in supporting the electoral process observation in a way that contributes to the success of the elections, and guarantees sovereignty and respect for the independent decision of the Iraqis.”

The President stressed “the importance of securing fair and free elections throughout their various stages, and providing electoral security to create a safe and stable environment in order to secure the free will of voters to choose their representatives, and to provide protection and equal opportunities for participation and candidacy, indicating that these factors are a fundamental pillar for the success of elections and the start of the desired reform. ”

He said, “The upcoming elections are of great importance as a national entitlement that cannot be compromised or influenced, pointing out that creating the appropriate conditions for this election represents a fundamental pillar for its success and continuing the path towards the desired reform.”
