Baghdad The President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, received representatives of the coordination committees of the October demonstrations.
A statement to the judiciary media stated that, Zaidan received, in the presence of the head of the Judicial Supervision Authority, Judge Musallam Mutaib Madib, representatives of the coordination of the October demonstrations, assuring them that the right to peaceful demonstration is guaranteed under the provisions of the constitution.
The statement indicated that the requests and observations of the representative of the demonstrators were listened to, and the investigative bodies were stressed on the need to quickly resolve the cases of killing protesters and the attacks they were subjected to, and directing all Federal Courts of Appeal to follow up on those cases, as well as quickly resolving issues of financial and administrative corruption, with the need to maintain communication with the demonstrators for a statement to see the problems they have and verify the information received from the investigative authorities against the demonstrators, for fear of plotting against them.”
The Chairman of the Council also confirmed that the Rusafa Investigation Court had begun conducting a duly investigation into the incident of killing demonstrators in demonstrations on May 25, 2021 and following up on the investigation procedures in that case, leading to the identification of the direct responsible for the incident.
The statement referred to the head of the council, stressing that the judiciary deals with the evidence presented in each case in terms of its sufficiency to convict or not. It is not possible to issue any judicial decision without reliance on evidence considered legally far from any interference in the work of the judiciary from any side.
