Baghdad The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed, received today the head and members of the Supreme Committee to follow up the implementation of the Official Languages Law No. (7) of 2014.
According to a statement by the office of the Deputy Speaker of the Council, they discussed the work of the committee and the legal and administrative procedures for adopting the Arabic language and the Kurdish language in official communications among Ministries and government departments, the Arabic language alongside the Kurdish language in the Kurdistan region, and the importance of taking into account other languages for components at the level of regions and local governments.
Ahmed stressed: The Arabic and Kurdish languages are the two official languages of Iraq according to the constitution in Article (4) first, and we will direct to approve the recommendations of the Supreme Committee to follow up on the implementation of the Official Languages Law.
He pointed out: the necessity of continuing the work of the committee and direct coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government to install the formalities in official communications in both languages, and to provide teaching staff in the Kurdish language and translators specialized in the field of texts of law to translate texts of legislation and laws in force, and to circulate the Kurdish language alongside the Arabic language throughout Iraq.
