Sponsored by UNESCO Iraq… An international team meets with a group of journalists to establish a helpline for Iraqi women journalists

Baghdad UNESCO held a series of joint dialogue discussions with a group of Iraqi journalists in the capital, Baghdad, and the official for freedom of expression programs in the Dutch Free Press Without Borders Organization (FPU), which is implementing a joint project with UNESCO Iraq.

The journalists discussed with Yoon Johnson, representative of the Dutch organization, and Diaa Sobhi from UNESCO Iraq, crystallizing the establishment of a helpline for Iraqi women journalists and the implementation of the safety and security system in models of Iraqi media and press institutions, since an important part of the responsibility for protecting journalists rests with the press and media institutions.

A group of journalists expressed their reservations about granting some incompetent local organizations that have not achieved anything for journalism and the safety of journalists, despite having received dozens of projects and grants since 2006 until recently.

The team of journalists, among the friends of UNESCO projects and the support team for the Breaking the Silence project implemented by UNESCO and the Dutch organization, presented a number of proposals to the international team, which included the establishment of a national team of Iraqi journalists, men and women, that would assume the role of hosting the helpline away from the role of indiscreet civil organizations.
