Terrorist ISIS claims responsibility for killing civilians and burning houses in Congo

Baghdad The terrorist organization ISIS announced that it had adopted an attack recently targeting a village in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

According to Reuters, the organization stated that it was responsible for the attack on the village of Kalimbo, 40 km east of the city of Beni.

Residents of Kalimbo village told AFP that rebels killed 16 people and set homes on fire during an attack last Wednesday, which a local human rights group blamed on the Allied Democratic Forces, an Ugandan armed group operating in the area.

The group publicly announced its alliance with ISIS, but a report issued by the United Nations last June found no evidence that the group received direct support from the organization.

The Allied Democratic Forces group has been active in the dense forests near the Ugandan border for more than 30 years, and has been killing civilians in large numbers since 2014.
