Kirkuk The Chaldean bishops and priests in Iraq called on their partners in the homeland, to liberate themselves from narrow selfish interests, corruption and acts of violence, and to make efforts for the renaissance of their country, and lay the foundations of a strong and stable state, a state of citizenship, law, equality and respect for diversity.
This came during Patriarch Cardinal Louis Raphael Sacco presiding over the annual spiritual exercise of the Chaldean bishops and priests of Iraq, in the Patriarchal Synod in the town of Ainkawa / Erbil, with the participation of eighty bishops and priests from different dioceses.
In a statement issued by them, they called on their partners in the homeland to liberate themselves from narrow selfish interests, corruption and acts of violence, to make efforts for the renaissance of their country, and to lay the foundations of a strong and stable state, a state of citizenship, law, equality and respect for diversity.
The participants expressed their great pain for the scenes of the bombings in the past days, in Al Hussein Hospital in Nasiriyah and in Sadr City, where dozens died and many innocents were wounded, highlighting that politicizing corruption, injustice and violence contradicts human nature, religious laws and international laws, and this is a moral dilemma that must be addressed.
With regard to the upcoming elections, the participants urged the Iraqis to participate heavily and strongly in the elections, and to choose their representatives from among the honorable, who are competent and qualified, and have knowledge of politics and law, and have good morals, a sense of patriotism, sincerity, integrity and courage, and that their only concern is the good of the country and citizens, and not leadership and material and factional gains. They categorically reject the exploitation of the Church for electoral purposes, and any propaganda campaign under its cloak or the cloak of religion.
They conclude with a prayer, O Lord of peace, grant our country peace.
