In a statement, he said: “With great regret, the Chaldean Church condemns the burning of a copy of the Holy Qur’an by a Swedish extremist in front of the Turkish embassy in Sweden.

He said that this behavior is contrary to human, religious and moral values, and hurts the feelings of millions of Muslims in the world, and fuels hate speech at a time our world needs civil peace.

He added that states must assume their responsibility to respect the right of every person to practice their faith freely, and take firm steps in protecting religions, their symbols, and believers in them, spreading a spirit of love and brotherhood among followers of religions, immunizing citizens from extremism and violence, and punishing offenders to prevent their recurrence.
