The Foreign Minister receives a copy of the credentials of the new Russian Ambassador to Baghdad

Baghdad Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein received today, Tuesday, a copy of the credentials of Elbrus Kontrachev as Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Baghdad.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the two sides held talks on ways to improve bilateral relations between the two countries, and the importance of enhancing cooperation opportunities at various levels to meet the aspirations of the two peoples.

The Minister affirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ readiness to provide all the conditions that would enable him to perform his duties to the fullest, wishing him success in his work, and wishing to convey his greetings to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov.

The Minister praised the high level of coordination between the two countries in the field of combating terrorism, and the work of Russian companies to build and develop the Iraqi infrastructure in the oil and electricity sector, in addition to scientific and technical cooperation.

For his part, the Russian Ambassador affirmed his country’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, and the willingness to cooperate in all fields, indicating his country’s keenness to coordinate and continuously consult with Iraq on various issues of common interest.

He stressed the importance of holding meetings of the joint Iraqi-Russian committee during the coming months, to develop relations between the two countries and in various fields.
