The Head Of KRG Discusses With Macron The Security Situation In Iraq And The Region And Problems Between Kurdistan And The Federal Govt

Baghdad The President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, met with French President Emmanuel Macron, and discussed the relations between the Kurdistan Region and France.

The French president referred to the historical relationship between France and the Kurdistan region and the role played by the Kurdistan Peshmerga, led by President Massoud Barzani, in defeating ISIS, stressing his country’s continued support for the Kurdistan region.

“Our visit to Kurdistan is a message that France will not abandon its friends,” he said.

For his part, the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government praised the firm French position in supporting the Kurdistan Region at various stages, pointing to the importance of joint work and coordination with France and the international community in order to solve all the problems of Iraq, especially the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, praising the positive and purposeful French role to achieve security and stability in the region.

In another aspect of the meeting, the importance of implementing the Sinjar Agreement and preparing the appropriate ground for the return of the displaced to their areas was discussed.
