The Human Rights Office in Basra calls for an investigation into the death of a detainee in a police station

The Office of the High Commission for Human Rights in Basra called on the provincial police command to conduct an investigation regarding the death of a detainee in a police station.

In a statement, the office called on the House of Representatives to expedite the legislation of the Anti-Torture Law in implementation of Iraq’s treaty obligations, including the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel or Degrading Treatment.

It also called on the Ministry of the Interior to enforce the work of judicial investigators and to remove any untrained officer or ranks from the investigation files
