The Iraqi and French Ministries of Justice discuss ways of cooperation and joint coordination in the field of preparing and rehabilitating inmates in correctional departments.


Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice Ziad Khalifa Al-Tamimi discussed with a delegation from the French Ministry of Justice headed by Deputy Director of Criminal Justice Julien Rotayo and the official for combating violent extremism Noufal Ayed, ways of cooperation and joint coordination in the field of preparing and rehabilitating inmates in correctional departments.

During the meeting, according to a statement by the Ministry of Justice, Al-Tamimi expressed the Ministry of Justice’s readiness to provide the necessary support to facilitate the delegation’s tasks, especially in the field of rehabilitating inmates and exchanging experiences.

Al-Tamimi stressed that a comprehensive vision has been developed for correctional prisons, especially in Nasiriyah Central Prison, through the “Etidal” program, which aims to change the extremist thinking of inmates and integrate them into society in a positive way through rehabilitation, training and skills acquisition programs, in accordance with internati
onal laws on human rights.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to prepare a draft memorandum of cooperation in the field of training and combating extremism in the Ministry of Justice’s correctional prisons.

The French delegation praised the efforts of the Ministry of Justice in achieving human rights standards in all correctional departments.

The meeting was attended by the head of the Investigation and Analysis Office, Julien Frodo, the head of the North Africa and Middle East file at the French Ministry of Justice, Alissa Ben Shaaban, and a number of Ministry officials.
