The Minister of Culture calls on Iran to control the smuggling of antiquities across the common border between the two countries

Baghdad The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, called on the Islamic Republic of Iran to control the smuggling of antiquities across the common border between the two countries.

A statement by the Ministry of Culture said that the Minister of Culture received the Iranian Ambassador, Muhammad Kazem Al-Sadeq, and the Iranian Cultural Advisor, Ghulam Reza Abadhari, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The minister said that the ministry is working hard with international organizations to preserve archaeological and heritage sites that are vulnerable to erosion and extinction.

He referred to the memorandums of understanding and cooperation signed between Iraq and Iran in the field of cinema, theater and photography of holy places for film and documentary production, calling for activating joint cooperation in various common fields.

For his part, the Iranian ambassador affirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran is keen to stop the smuggling of Iraqi antiquities and is ready to cooperate in this field./ End
