The Minister of Trade and the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary of the UN in Iraq discuss bilateral cooperation

The Minister of Trade, Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairy, discussed with the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary in Iraq, Ghulam Izakzai, the possibilities of cooperation and support for development projects and programs and codifying work mechanisms according to a plan and over the next five years that the United Nations intends to work inside Iraq.

During the meeting, the Minister of Trade gave an overview of the future vision of the Ministry of Trade and its work with the World Food Program and the World Trade Center and the procedures for building a basic database on the targeted and eligible classes of the supply system, and setting out to change the concept of the culture of support among the Iraqi citizen and the monitoring processes in addition to developing the ministry’s sectors through improving Business environment and partnership with the private sector.

He continued, “One of the main tasks of the Ministry of Trade is drawing up the country’s trade policy, convening and activating joint committees, developing economic relations with all countries of the world, and increasing the volume of trade exchange with them, in addition to working to open up to the private sector, support exports, and provide programs to support small projects.”

Al-Ghurairy indicated that the Ministry of Trade needs support in programs to develop the competencies and expertise of the employees, as well as support programs for developing the private sector and applying the successful experiences of countries in the world in the possibilities of diversifying exports and imports and focusing on the strengths and weaknesses of the capabilities available to achieve the goals in development and development to manage the ministry’s future projects at the long term.

The Minister expressed his hope that the United Nations would play a greater role to help in various fields.

For his part, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary in Iraq affirmed readiness to provide all support to Iraq in general and to the Ministry of Trade in particular with regard to development programs and projects to advance the commercial reality according to a joint plan and to proceed with rapid and renewed steps in accordance with the requirements of the current stage in developing programs and work method.
