The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, called on all parties concerned to the unfortunate developments in Kirkuk to refrain from any threat or use of force.
The President of the Republic said in a statement: “We follow with great concern the developments in the situation in Kirkuk Governorate, and we always affirm our keen desire for peace to prevail in all parts of the country, and we call on all parties concerned to the unfortunate developments in Kirkuk to refrain from any threat or use of force, and we also call on everyone to give priority to the interests of the people and the stability of the country over any other interests.
And the President of the Republic confirmed, according to the statement, that Kirkuk was and still is a symbol of Iraqi brotherhood and inclusive of all spectrums, and we will not allow its image to be distorted.
He added, “I call on the federal government and security forces to intervene seriously to control the situation in the city, and to control security and the rule of law in it, in a way that preserves a just peace.”
Rashid called on all political parties and social and popular figures to take their role in preventing strife in order to preserve the stability of Kirkuk governorate and the security of its citizens.
He concluded by saying, May God preserve all the people of Kirkuk in a safe and stable city that expresses fraternal harmony and cohesive societal coexistence.
