The President of the Republic assures the commander of the NATO mission in Iraq the need to expand his training and advisory tasks

Baghdad The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Thursday, the commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission in Iraq, Lieutenant-General Giovanni Iannucci.

A statement from the Office of the President of the Republic stated: they discussed during the meeting, the tasks carried out by the NATO mission in the country in providing military advice and training to the Iraqi security forces, enhancing their military capabilities and raising the level of professionalism and efficiency, in a way that contributes to supporting Iraq’s efforts in combating terrorism and eliminating its hotbeds.

The President of the Republic stressed that terrorism and extremism constitute a dangerous phenomenon for the whole world, indicating that the Iraqi security forces, with all their types, were able to defeat terrorism and its malicious plans, and continue to pursue its remnants to block the path to its attempts to threaten the security and stability of citizens.

He pointed to the important cooperation with NATO in the field of enhancing the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces in carrying out this task, and the need to expand its training and advisory tasks to include all regions of Iraq.

For his part, Lieutenant General Iannucci expressed the NATO mission’s keenness to consolidate relations of cooperation with Iraq in the field of training, advice, exchange of information and intelligence effort, in a way that enhances the capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces in all its forms .
