The Prime Minister’s Office Announces It Had Thwarted An Attempt To Rig The Elections

Baghdad The office of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi announced that it had thwarted an attempt to rig the elections.

The office said in a press statement: “A number of suspects, with ties to employees of the Electoral Commission, have been arrested”

It added, “An intertwined network of those responsible for the case was reached, whether with funding, encouragement or assistance, including current and former political and parliamentary figures, and some employees of the Electoral Commission,” noting: “The investigation on this issue and other issues and all those responsible for it is continuing, those involved will be brought to justice.”

The statement stressed that the government will continue to implement its pledges to secure free and fair elections.
