The Turkish President is competing for the presidency, the candidate of the People’s Alliance, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who aspires to win a second and final term after the country’s transition to the presidential system, and the candidate of the Nation Alliance, the leader of the Republican People’s Party, Kemal Kiliçdaroglu.

The first round of the elections, which took place on the fourteenth of this month, and witnessed the participation of 89 % of the number of those eligible to vote, was not decided after the three competitors, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Kemal Kiliçdaroglu, and the head of the Grandfathers’ Alliance, Sinan Ogan, failed to achieve the percentage required to win the presidential position / 50 +1 / where Erdogan got 49.52 %, Kilicdaroglu 44.88 %, and Sinan Ogan 5.20 % of the total vote, which necessitated a second round to resolve the situation.
