The Speaker of the House of Representatives meets the Sheikh of Al-Azhar and appreciates his active role in consolidating the unity of Muslims across their various sects / Expanded

Baghdad Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, met today, Thursday, the Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb.

Al-Halbousi praised the effective role of the Sheikh of Al-Azhar in consolidating the unity of Muslims across all spectrums, and his relentless efforts to deepen interfaith dialogue and the language of moderation and renounce extremism in the region, pointing to the importance of the scheduled visit of the Sheikh of Al-Azhar to Iraq next November.

His Eminence the Grand Imam, in his name and on behalf of Al-Azhar and its scholars and students, welcomed the Iraqi delegation in the sheikhdom of Al-Azhar, saying that Al-Azhar and its students and sheikhs have a close relationship with Iraq, which is the relationship of brotherhood, Arabism, Islam and science, religion and the Arabic language.

The Sheikh of Al-Azhar also expressed his high appreciation for the people of Iraq, and that he looks forward to visiting him and longs to see a country and cities that have long been attached to the thought of its sheikhs and scholars and their efforts in the service of science and advocacy, and that he is interested in expanding the program of his visit to Iraq so that the meeting includes the various sects of the people and Iraq’s historical landmarks, stressing that the nation’s unity and cohesion are a destination one of the purposes of Islam, and we have no other choice but this path for security, stability and prosperity.

At the end of the visit, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar presented the Iraqi delegation with the shield of Al-Azhar’s memory as an expression of brotherly relations, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives presented him with the shield of Moulouya Samarra and Baghdad’s religious and civilizational landmarks
