Baghdad The Military Intelligence Directorate foiled the smuggling of a large quantity of medicines west of Nineveh.
A statement by the Military Intelligence Directorate said, the intelligence detachments thwarted the largest operation to smuggle medicines from Syria to Iraq through the border region with the Kurdistan region."
The statement added that a vehicle was seized near the Jalbara police station in Rabee'a district, west of Nineveh. It appeared that it was loaded with 53,217 medicinal substances, represented by ointments, tablets, special treatment for heart diseases, ampules, medicines for chronic diseases, medicines and treatments for various diseases and conditions, was taking illegal routes with the intention of evading customs duties and laboratory testing of materials.
The vehicle and materials have been handed over to the competent authorities to take legal measures.
