Baghdad - Military sources revealed the intention of the Syrian army to reach the border with Iraq.
"Syrian government forces intend to control the Syrian part of the road connecting Damascus to Baghdad in order to secure the arrival of arms supplies and other supplies from Iraq," the sources said in a statement to Izvestiya newspaper.
The sources added that "the retired Syrian General Mohammed Abbas confirmed the existence of this intention," pointing out that "the armed opposition, or those who are backed by the US, intend to establish a buffer zone along the Golan Heights and the border with Jordan and Iraq, and our army intends to prevent it."
The past few weeks have witnessed rapid movement of Syrian opposition forces along the border with Jordan and Iraq.
