Baghdad The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has welcomed the generous contribution of the United States of America of $53.3 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to support the displaced people and refugees in Iraq.
It stated in a statement that the US contribution to support protection and assistance programs provided by UNHCR to vulnerable displaced persons and Syrian refugees in Iraq.
This contribution, according to the statement, raises the total contribution of the United States of America towards the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Iraq in 2021 to $88 million. Indicating: So far, the operation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Iraq has been funded by 35%.
The statement added that: There are more than 247,000 Syrian refugees and 1.2 million displaced people currently living in Iraq. The impact of the Corona pandemic and the economic downturn was severe and noticeably towards these vulnerable families who live in prolonged displacement and under miserable living conditions.
