US swimmer ends Olympics with five gold medals

Baghdad American swimmer Caleb Dressel ended his career in the Tokyo Olympics by winning his fifth gold medal, today, Sunday.

Dressel won the men’s 50m freestyle gold today, by nearly half a second, a huge difference in modern sprints. He also played a prominent role in America’s winning of the men’s 4x100m medley relay gold.

Dressel excelled in all three of his individual races, which are 100 meters butterfly, 50 meters freestyle, and 100 meters freestyle, as well as two relay races.

Dressel, 24, who has taken his tally to seven gold medals in his Olympic career, said the pressure to win the Olympics is much greater than the world championships.

Dressel faced comparisons with the two American legends, Michael Phelps and Mark Spitz, winners of eight and seven golds in one edition of the Olympics, but he said he wanted to make his own mark.
