Kut The local government in Wasit announced its rejection of the privatization of the agricultural equipment sector in the Ministry of Agriculture, considering the decision a punishment to farmers and eliminate the agricultural sector, which already suffers from many problems that burden the farmers in Wasit and prevent them from development and success.
The head of the Agricultural Committee, Governor of Wasit, Muhammad Jamil Al-Mayahi, said in a media statement: “Privatization means killing job opportunities for hundreds of thousands of citizens who own nothing but agriculture as a source of livelihood, and a step that negatively affects the agricultural sector, as it will be a major reason for raising the prices of seeds and fertilizers and other requirements of costly agriculture and the costs of irrigation and fuel, and the list of requirements that make agriculture a losing trade, and cause reluctance from it, and push its workers to look for other work in the cities.
He added, “We demand the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, to intervene directly and prevent this collapse in agriculture and the threat to its workers, and the accompanying social, economic and security problems that may be caused by the problems of agriculture’s decline and loss.”
