US President Donald Trump Administration has announced that President Bashar al-Assad government may be developing new, more sophisticated chemical weapons, saying Washington reserves the right to take a military action to prevent Damascus from using such weapons.

Officials have revealed that recent attacks suggest Syria is producing chemical weapons despite a 2013 agreement to destroy its program.

Officials said it was very likely that Syria had stockpiled weapons.

They explained that the Syrian government forces continued to use chemical weapons from time to time in smaller quantities since last April’s attack.

Officials also said that Syria might be making new types of weapons, whether to improve its military capabilities or escape international accountability.

“America reserves the right to take military action against the Syrian government if necessary to prevent or deter the use of chemical weapons,” a senior official was quoted as saying.

Washington launched a missile strike on the Syrian airfield using 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles in retaliation for a chemical attack on sarin gas on Khan Shikhun on April 4, 2017.
