Wells save residents of two border cities in Diyala from a severe thirst crisis

Baquba Artesian wells saved the residents of two border cities, east of Diyala, from a severe thirst crisis that almost created an environmental and humanitarian disaster.

Director of Mandali district, Mazen Akram, told the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA/ that the lack of water revenues in the Mandali irrigation dam, east of Diyala, caused a severe thirst crisis after the decrease in raw water feeding the liquefaction stations that provide drinking water for the residents of the villages of the two districts of Mandali and Qazaniya.”

He added, “the operation of 20 artesian wells saved the residents of both areas after supplying the liquefaction plants with sufficient water, which contributed to providing 50% of the people’s need,” noting that the cadres of the Ministry of Water Resources will start operating the other completed wells in the coming days to fill the shortage in drinking water in order to avoid a fatal thirst crisis.
