Zelensky meets Biden in Washington, and the latter announces the provision of the Patriot system to Ukraine

Baghdad US President Joe Biden received, on Wednesday evening, his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, in the latter’s first visit abroad since the start of the war in his country.

Zelensky posed next to Jill and Joe Biden, wearing a military jacket, to pose for pictures of them.

The two presidents will hold bilateral talks before holding a joint press conference.

The US Secretary of State had anticipated Zelensky’s visit today, Wednesday, by saying that his country would provide Ukraine with the most advanced Patriot air defense system.

“Today’s assistance package includes, for the first time, the Patriot air defense system, which is capable of shooting down intercontinental missiles, short-range ballistic missiles, and aircraft flying at altitudes that clearly exceed the capabilities of the defense systems that have been delivered so far,” Secretary Anthony Blinken said in a statement.

The Patriot system is part of a new US military aid package to Ukraine worth about $1.85 billion, including one billion in the form of weapons for Kiev from the US army’s stocks, that is, they can be delivered quickly, and 850 million orders from the defense industry, which means deadlines of several months and perhaps years.
