Mashhad: Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni announced that about 1.2 million illegal Afghan migrants have left Iran since the beginning of this year to return to their country. In a press statement on Monday in Mashhad, the capital of Khorasan Razavi Province, Momeni highlighted the significant movement of migrants back to Afghanistan.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Momeni stated that more than 70 percent of these migrants have taken personal and voluntary steps to leave Iran. He further explained that Iran is currently home to more than 6 million Afghan refugees, with an expectation that two million of them might return to Afghanistan by the end of the year.
