Baghdad: 140 tons of natural gas arrived in the Kurdistan Region on Friday evening, following recent attacks and the suspension of operations by Dana Gas.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Sipan Shirwani, a member of the Oil, Gas, and Natural Resources Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, informed the Kurdish media network Rudaw that the delivery was made possible through the efforts of the Minister of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region and in coordination with the Federal Minister of Oil. The approval was granted to address the gas supply shortage in the region.

Shirwani explained that after close monitoring of procedures with the Deputy Minister for Gas Affairs, the Director General of the Federal Gas Filling and Services Company, and the Gas Transportation Company, 140 tons of gas were delivered to the Kurdistan Region.

He indicated that efforts are underway to increase these quantities in the coming days, emphasizing that "this current quantity is insufficient and does not meet all the needs and demands of the citizens in the Kurdistan Region."

This measure comes after Dana Gas announced two days ago the temporary suspension of gas production at the Kor Mor field, located within the Sulaimaniyah Governorate, due to the security situation. Following this, the Ministries of Natural Resources and Electricity issued a joint statement reassuring citizens that they would not allow a gas supply crisis.
