Hokkaido: An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of eastern Hokkaido, northern Japan, early this morning. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the epicenter was located southeast of the Nemuro Peninsula, at a depth of approximately 40 kilometers below sea level. Fortunately, there is no risk of a tsunami following the seismic event.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage resulting from the earthquake. Japan’s location in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for intense seismic activity, makes it prone to frequent earthquakes. This seismic zone extends from Southeast Asia across the Pacific Ocean basin.
