Balikesir: A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Sundaragi district of Balikesir province in western Turkey at midnight last night.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 5.99 kilometers. The tremors were felt by residents in Istanbul, Izmir, and several other provinces within the Marmara and Aegean regions.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced via social media that specialized teams have been deployed to conduct field surveys in the affected areas. The Sundaragi district governor disclosed that while there was destruction in some areas, there were no reports of casualties.

Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu mentioned in a social media post that no negative reports had been received following the quake. Additionally, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Oraloglu confirmed on the Turkish social media platform “InSocial” that the communications infrastructure remained intact.

he earthquake follows a similar 6.1-magnitude tremor that hit the Sundargi district on August 10, which resulted in one fatality and 29 injuries.
