Jakarta: A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of eastern Indonesia on Friday, with no immediate reports of injuries or damage, according to the US Geological Survey. The quake occurred at a depth of 120 kilometers, approximately 58 kilometers west of Tobelo in North Maluku province, at 11:31 a.m. local time.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that there was no tsunami threat. Indonesia, along with its neighboring countries, frequently experiences earthquakes due to their location within the Pacific Ring of Fire. This region is known for its intense seismic activity, which stretches from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin.
