Santiago: A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck Chile early Friday morning, triggering tsunami warnings.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the U.S. Geological Survey reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Drake Passage off the coast of Chile’s Antarctic Peninsula.

The U.S. Geological Survey explained that the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 10.8 kilometers and was felt in several cities in Argentina and Chile. The impact of the earthquake prompted a swift response from local authorities.

The Chilean Navy’s Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service issued a tsunami warning following the earthquake. As a precautionary measure, Chilean authorities ordered the evacuation of coastal areas, including fishing ports, harbors, and jetties.
