Iraqi Prime Minister Prioritizes Comprehensive Digital Transformation


BAGHDAD: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed the government’s commitment to a comprehensive digital transformation in Iraq, emphasizing its necessity during the periodic meeting of the Supreme Committee for Digital Transformation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s media office released a statement detailing the discussions and decisions of the Supreme Committee for Digital Transformation, which Al-Sudani chaired. The meeting focused on reviewing the implementation of previous decisions and directives, monitoring the progress of digital procedures in public sector institutions, and developing infrastructure to support this pivotal transition. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of this transformation to enhance the quality of services provided to citizens and highlighted the adoption of this process in the government’s five-year development plan.

The statement further elaborated that the committee evaluated several files, approving a technical report on the s
trategic directions to fulfill the digital transformation requirements. This includes the methodology and general principles to initiate the process, drawing from the successful experiences of countries with similar conditions to Iraq. The vision for achieving this transformation emphasizes service and cybersecurity as foundational elements.

Additionally, the committee approved specific steps for digital transformation in the Retirement and Social Security Department within the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Discussions also covered the necessary actions for implementing digital solutions in the Company Registration Department at the Ministry of Trade.

The statement concluded with the committee’s decision to continue its collaboration with the United Nations Development Program to enhance indicators related to the communications and information technology sector.
