Iraqi Prime Minister Calls for International Action Against Weapon Supplies to Israel

BAGHDAD: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has emphasized the necessity of global intervention to halt weapon supplies to Israel, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. The Prime Minister’s statements were made during a significant meeting with the newly appointed head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the UN Special Representative, Mohammed Al-Hassan.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussion between Al-Sudani and Al-Hassan focused on the evolving dynamics between Iraq and the United Nations following the Security Council’s decision to conclude UNAMI’s mission with Resolution No. 2732. This resolution was a response to Iraq’s communicated intentions to bolster political and security stability in the region. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the UN mission’s contributions over the years and affirmed Iraq’s ongoing cooperation with international bodies.

In the meeting, Al-Sudani also condemned recent hostilities involving the Zionist forces,
specifically an attack on UNIFIL personnel in Lebanon, which resulted in several injuries. He criticized these actions as severe violations of international norms and highlighted the urgent need for international measures to prevent further weapon supplies to Israel, in order to cease ongoing conflicts in Lebanon and Gaza.
