BAGHDAD: President of the Republic Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his delegation at the Baghdad Palace. The meeting, attended by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Muhammad Kazem Al-Sadiq, focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional security concerns.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions emphasized the historical, social, and religious ties between Iraq and Iran, with both sides expressing a commitment to further develop their relationship across various sectors. President Rashid highlighted the importance of these ties in achieving mutual benefits and enhancing regional stability.
The meeting also addressed recent tensions in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing conflicts in Lebanon and Gaza. President Rashid urged for immediate international action to halt attacks by the Zionist entity on Lebanon and to cease the targeting of civilians. He emphasized the neces
sity to end the war against the Palestinian people in Gaza and to prevent any expansion of the conflict.
President Rashid stressed the global implications of continued warfare in these areas, advocating for diplomatic solutions to crises and the avoidance of further regional escalation. He reiterated Iraq’s stance against the use of its territory as a base for aggression towards neighboring countries and condemned any acts of violation or aggression against Iraqi cities and villages.
Foreign Minister Araqchi shared Iran’s perspective on the situation, emphasizing the need to adhere to international laws and norms and to maintain global peace and security. He condemned the aggression against Lebanon and Gaza as violations of these principles.
