Israeli Army Investigates Potential Assassination of Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar

Jabalia: The Israeli army is currently investigating whether Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed during a recent military operation in the Gaza Strip, amidst reports that a body suspected to be his is undergoing DNA verification.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a security source has stated that preliminary assessments suggest the operation successfully targeted Sinwar. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority further reported that Israel possesses Sinwar’s DNA from his previous detention, aiding in the swift identification process.

Channel 12 detailed comments from an Israeli minister indicating that it appears Sinwar has been “liquidated.” Meanwhile, an Israeli army spokesman expressed cautious optimism about the operation’s outcome, noting, “There is a possibility that Sinwar has been eliminated,” but clarified that confirmation of his death is not yet possible.

The Israeli army elaborated that the investigation into Sinwar’s potential death is being conducted in collaboration with Shin Bet, Israel’s
internal security service. “We are examining with the Shin Bet the possibility that Sinwar was killed during an army activity in Gaza,” the army stated.

Further details from the army revealed that the operation in the Gaza Strip resulted in the elimination of three operatives, though their identities have not been definitively confirmed. The army also noted that no evidence of kidnapped persons was found in the targeted building.

The military activity in question also had significant collateral damage; an Israeli airstrike targeted a school in the Jabalia camp, which was sheltering displaced persons, resulting in the death of at least 22 Palestinians and injuries to many others, including women and children.
