Baghdad: Today’s publications in Baghdad reveal discussions about the potential relocation of Iraqi oil to areas outside regional conflict zones and ongoing efforts to address environmental pollution in the capital. Al-Zawraa newspaper highlighted recommendations for safeguarding Iraq’s oil exports amid increasing regional tensions, while Al-Sabah focused on the government’s extensive campaign to combat pollution in Baghdad.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zawraa, operated by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, detailed the precarious situation of Iraqi oil production and export due to regional conflicts. Economic expert Safwan Qusay suggested relocating part of Iraq’s surplus oil production to secure warehouses in China or the European Union. This measure aims to protect Iraq’s oil assets from potential disruptions in conflict zones and maintain stable export rates. Qusay emphasized the importance of coordinating with OPEC and its partners, including Russia, to implement these protective measures e
ffectively.
Qusay also commented on the market dynamics affecting oil prices, noting a recent surge due to perceived threats to oil facilities. However, he reassured that the redirection of the energy market towards stability, coupled with growing demand from China and the United States, should keep oil prices between $70 and $80. He highlighted the significance of the upcoming U.S. elections and recent U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate cuts in influencing global oil consumption patterns.
Al-Sabah newspaper, issued by the Iraqi Media Network, reported on the severe pollution affecting Baghdad. The publication described a government-led initiative to tackle environmental hazards, prompted by alarming levels of sulfur and carbon dioxide in the city’s atmosphere. The campaign involved shutting down over 400 brick factories that failed to meet environmental standards and emphasized the need to relocate industrial activities away from residential areas to mitigate pollution risks. The initiative is part of a br
oader effort endorsed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and the Council of Ministers to preserve the health of Baghdad’s residents.
