BEIRUT: Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire, stating that there is no priority over halting the targeting of civilians and towns. His remarks came during a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Georgina Meloni, highlighting the escalating tensions affecting the region.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Mikati condemned the recent attacks by what he termed the “Zionist entity” on United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and criticized the disruption of its mission to assist Lebanon. He underlined the importance of international forces and their role in maintaining stability in the region.
Mikati also expressed Lebanon’s readiness to bolster the presence of its national army in the southern territories. He emphasized that this move aims to enhance cooperation with UNIFIL forces, ensuring a more robust response to any threats and promoting peace and stability in the area.
